The Opportunity.The Trustees is seeking a CSA Manager to oversee management responsibility for the CSA operation and all vegetable production at Powisset Farm.Responsibilities includemanagement of:crop production planning and field and soil health;systems and infrastructure; staff hiring, training and supervision; budget planningandtracking; equipment procurement, operation and maintenance; CSA distribution; member and community relations;on-site farm-storeoversight along withonline farm-storeorderpackingcoordination andoccasionalassistance withPowisset educationprogramming and events.You are not only a farmer, but a farm ambassador with a public facing opportunity to support all activity taking place at the farm — farming, engagement, stewardship and education — with internal colleagues and the greater community.TheCSA Managerreports directly to theAgricultural Operations Managerand worksclosely with Charles River ValleyPortfolioDirector and with otherwith property colleagues from education, stewardship, and livestock programs as needed. The position is salaried and year-round with a seasonally variable work schedule.In This Role You Will:Oversee the production of Certified Organic vegetable crops on a commercial scale to meet the needs of CSA, farm-storeand wholesale clients at a public facing farm.Recruit, train, supervise andmanageall farm apprentices and staff, including part-time workers and volunteers in all field work, modeling and ensuring best practicesin field work, visitor engagement, safety standards for FSMA and tractor and equipment.Foster a positive and friendly work atmosphere.Monitor field conditions and soils, evaluate and improve soil health and fertility, control for pests, diseases, and weed pressure, and develop annual crop plans and rotations.Care forand maintainfarm fields,equipment, infrastructure and facilities including tractors, implements, trucks, greenhouse and hoophouse, barn, coolers and root cellar, fencing and irrigation system: basic mechanic skills requiredTrain seasonal CSA staff in safe tractor operation and use of equipment and facilities; understand and educate staff on strategic goals of the Trustees as outlined in strategic plan.Maintainand managea fresh, clean andvibrant farm-store with a welcomingandforward-facingenvironment.Manage and encouragevolunteer and publicinvolvement in the CSA operation where appropriate.Participate in the Trustees sustainability and ecology work, help promote membership and support fund-raising efforts of other Trustees staffOther duties as assigned with or without accommodationTracking
