Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, the Sr. Analyst, Ceded Reinsurance Claims Specialist is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and processing moderately complex losses on assigned contracts. The Sr. Analyst will participate in projects requiring an increasing degree of technical skills, and provides functional support as assigned. This job does not manage others.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

Identify, review and confirm reinsurance coverage for a variety of reinsured claims with a focus on workers compensation and property.
Calculate and record proper financial results (reserves/billings).
Analyze and record all losses within company guidelines and issue timely notices, updates and billings for losses covered under our reinsurance contracts.
Collect reinsurance receivable; resolve routine reinsurer questions independently; present solutions to review with supervisor / manager to resolve moderately complex reinsurer questions and all disputes. This includes independently consulting with our brokers, business units, reinsurers, and internal experts to resolve specific questions regarding billings and reserves.
Participate on various Ceded Reinsurance/Company projects and initiatives (ex: commutations, insolvency, audit, etc.).
Anticipate and resolve problems, provide technical expertise as appropriate, make recommendations on possible solutions to problems and refer critical issues to the appropriate level of management.
Ensure that internal/external clients receive excellent service.
Maintain positive relationships with business unit, brokers, and reinsurer contacts to meet business unit needs and foster long-term relationships.
Occasionally attend reinsurer and broker meetings to discuss assigned claims/issues.
Occasionally train team members and/or provide mentoring to less experienced staff members.
Make recommendations on system, procedure and/or workflow enhancements to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of operation.
May conduct QA audits as assigned and make appropriate recommendations on training needs as appropriate.
May be responsible for reinsurer audit coordination.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of related experience required.
Thorough knowledge of basic insurance and reinsurance products, particularly for assigned line of business required.
Intermediate verbal, written and interpersonal skills required.
Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships across organizational lines required.
Intermediate presentation skills required.
Intermediate Word & Excel Skills required.
Demonstrated ability to respond quickly to changing priorities required.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment required.
Intermediate analytical, problem resolution, decision making and organizational skills required.
Flexibility (ability to adjust to new situations and changing priorities) required.
Technical Skills:
Excellent time management skills required.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Claim experience is a plus.

Licensing or Certificates

Working towards professional designation (ARe, CPCU) preferred.

Job Specific Technical Skills & Competencies

Thorough knowledge of insurance/reinsurance concepts for the assigned line(s) of business required; general knowledge understanding of Travelers reinsurance program for assigned line of business preferred.
