Cato is seeking an Associate Relations Manager to join its Human Resources team. The Associate Relations Manager will utilize independent judgment to provide guidance to Corporate, DC and Store Operations management, as it relates to the handling of associate relations issues, by c onducting confidential internal investigations including complaints of sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other issues in a professional and timely manner. The Associate Relations Manager will make recommendations to resolve issues in accordance with applicable laws and Company policies, practices, and procedures.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as initial point of advice, problem resolution and facilitation in areas of associate relations, performance management, and associate discipline;
  • Providing advice, counseling, and guidance to managers and associates;
  • Recommending appropriate action based upon results of investigative findings which may include training/coaching, performance improvement action plans, conflict resolution, and disciplinary action;
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and employment legislation and enforce policies and procedures to ensure compliance;
  • Interpreting and communicating applicable laws and human resources policies and procedures for managers and associates ;
  • Serving as part of the HR team that reviews reasonable accommodations under the ADA;
  • Serving as part of the HR team that reviews associate’s requests for religious accommodations;
  • Providing training on HR topics and employment laws;
  • Partnering with Regional and Territorial Field Management as needed as well as key departments including Loss Prevention, Payroll, and Benefits Administration in addressing/resolving specific associate relations issues;
  • Serving as human resources partner with the Distribution Center;
  • Ensuring company compliance with federal, state and local laws. Ex. Posting requirements;
  • Assisting in investigating and responding to EEOC, DOL and OSHA complaints;
  • Managing unemployment claims;
  • Helping coordinate the drug testing program in conjunction with the Recruitment and Risk Management teams;
  • Developing and distributing a monthly Associate Relations Hot Topic communication;
  • Assisting in administering the Service Awards Program;
  • Assisting in reviewing appropriate internet usage by associates; and
  • Reporting weekly associate relations activity and monthly unemployment stats.

Job Requirements:
Requirements for this position include:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in associate relations for a multi-site company;
  • A 4-year college degree;
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law;
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills;
  • Effective listening skills;
  • Must be proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; and
  • PHR certified preferred.
