About Sustainable Resilient LongmontSustainable Resilient Longmont (SRL) is a nonprofit in Longmont, Colorado working to make Longmont a more sustainable, thriving City. We carry out our mission with three program areas: Renewable Energy, Zero Waste and Earth Day.Renewable EnergyThe Renewable Energy program achieved remarkable success in its first year. After launching in summer of 2017, the groups efforts led to a commitment from Longmont City Council for a goal of 100% renewable energy by 2030. Now, this group is working with the community, City, State, and Platte River Power Authority to implement Longmonts 100% renewable energy goal.Zero WasteSRLs Zero Waste program educates and advocates for reducing trash headed to our landfills. The committee supported Longmont launching a curbside composting program in 2017. In 2021, the committee will continue education and advocacy to improve Zero Waste in Longmont, and organize a community clean up day.Earth DaySRL has organized the Longmont Earth Day Celebration since 2015. This annual program educates children and families about the importance of environmental conservation. With 700-900 attendees in typical years, the programming has pivoted with the pandemic to offer virtual opportunities to learn and engage.Development and Communications Manager PositionIn 2021, SRL seeks to boost our own organizational sustainability by hiring a Development and Communications Manager. This position will have leadership managing the fundraising and communications aspects of the organization, along with organizing events. The below is a summary of duties and expectations. This is a part-time contract position that reports to the Board Chair and the SRL board.Areas of Responsibility:Development (40%)Manage the overall fundraising aspects of the organization. Chair SRL Fundraising committee, including organizing monthly fundraising cmte meetings, recruit and coordinate volunteers. This includes coordinating SRL’s participation in Colorado Gives Day, Giving Tuesday, annual appeal, organizing a membership drive and end-of year fundraising drive.Managing all organization grants, including grant writing and prospecting, keeping a list of grant prospects with due dates, submitting grants and progress reports on time.Building SRL’s corporate sponsor program. This includes updating an annual sponsor packet, keeping an updated list of business outreach contacts, conducting outreach and meetings with potential donors about sponsorship opportunities.Maintain and grow SRL’s membership program. This includes member stewardship, outreach to past members, planning and executing an annual membership drive, and membership appreciation.Update and send annual membership survey, and compile data for funders in progress reports, as needed. Track ongoing data related to grants for progress reports.Maintain, build, and update donor databaseCommunications (30%)Compile, edit and send monthly e-newsletterWrite monthly blog to publish on website and newsletterUpdate website weekly or more often as neededManage social media accounts to promote events, committee work, etc. (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.) Manage Meetup account, including adding all events to Meetup and messaging Meetup members about volunteer and event opportunities.Coordinate with graphic designer and printer to produce print and digital advertising and promotional materials for major events, including Earth Day, annual fundraiser, sustainability candidate forum, and other events organized by the program committees.Ensure that print materials such as general flyer and committee information is up to date and printed in time for Farmers Markets and other outreach activities, meetings and events. Pick up flyers and posters and distribute (to committee and board members, hang flyers) and coordinate distribution of posters with volunteers.Events (20%)Lead the planning efforts for three major events in 2021: Longmont Earth Day, the Sustainability Awards Fundraiser, and the Sustainability Issues Candidate Forum. In addition, coordinate with the RE Committee to plan and execute Longmont EV Week.Volunteer recruitment and coordination for planning Earth Day, the Sustainability Awards and the Candidate Forum. This includes engaging board members and volunteers in the planning process, recruitment and coordination of volunteers.Assist committee chairs with coordinating events as needed.Staff major events including Earth Day, EV Fair, Sustainability Awards and the Candidate Forum.Admin (10%)Provide support to the SRL Board. This may include attending the monthly board meetings, collecting reports from committee chairs, and administrative duties such as booking meeting space and printing meeting materials. In addition, the Development and Communications Manager will submit a monthly report to the BOD.Communicate and coordinate with committee chairs to receive information and updates pertinent to events and communications.Requirements/Qualifications:Required:A Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Communications, Education, Public Relations, or a related field; or a two year degree in Business Administration, Communication, Education, Public Relations, or related field plus 1-2 years work experienceExcellent communication skills (written and verbal)Marketing and/or communications skills, including event promotion, email newsletters, social media and website managementPublic relations skills, including writing and distributing press releases and public speakingExperience with nonprofits and a passion for environmental issuesExperience with fundraising/event planning, communications and volunteer coordinationAbility to prioritize and organize multiple tasks and projectsWilling to take initiative, be resourceful, problem-solve, learn new skills, and offer creative ideasAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholdersProficiency using Microsoft Office and Google SuitePreferred:CRM database management experienceWebsite, social media and email marketing experienceSustainable Resilient Longmont is dedicated to equal employment opportunities in any term, condition, or privilege of employment.
