Our clients deserve nothing less.Who you are (Required):You desire to serve clients and make their lives better.You are a fiercely motivated self-starter.You thrive in a process-oriented environment.You are personable and empathetic.You are detail-oriented.You have strong research, writing, and analytical skills.You can successfully work remotely.You hold a license to practice law in Texas.(We can train you in everything else.)The Special Education Lawyer will:Conduct client-centered meetings, phone calls, and zoom conferences with clients;Communicate in-person, telephonically and by e-mail with opposing counsel, judges, and government agencies;Review and analyze client records as related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act; conduct legal research for same;Draft state and federal complaints, due process hearing requests, general pleadings;Prepare for and represent clients in school-level meetings, mediations, and trials;Manage cases from initial review through resolution or trial;Ensure all case notes and timekeeping are updated contemporaneously;Regularly attend and contribute to daily team meetings.Helpful, but not required skills:Experience in disability law, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act;A background in special education generally, or in K-12 teaching specifically;Experience in administrative hearings or courtroom trial experience;Public speaking experience.Start date is flexible.
