RAICES is hiring a full-time Staff Attorney to work in our San Antonio office. The Staff Attorney will provide legal services for individuals pursuing benefits or seeking relief under the Immigration and Nationality Act. Core responsibilities will include screening clients for legal relief, direct representation and pro bono attorney outreach. This position reports to the Managing Attorney.RAICES is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost immigration legal services to underserved immigrant children, families and refugees. With legal services, social programs, bond assistance, and an advocacy team focused on changing the narrative around immigration in this country, RAICES is operating on the national front lines of the fight for immigrant rights.Responsibilities and Duties:Conduct thorough intakes to ascertain immigration reliefHandle large caseload providing direct representation to individuals eligible for immigration reliefProvide representation to individuals in immigration removal proceedings as well as before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, theImmigration Court, or state court if related to a clients immigration caseConduct Know Your Rights presentations and other community outreach, as needed, which may occur outside of regular business hours;Assume general administrative responsibilities, including detailed case management, supervision of a legal assistant, and timekeeping.Minimum Requirements:J.D. from an accredited law schoolAdmission to a state bar;Fluent in Spanish – written and spoken.Preferred Qualifications:Texas state bar preferred;Experience in immigration (both affirmative and defensive) preferredAble to travel between San Antonio and Austin and throughout Central Texas.
