Remote locations and work schedules are determined based on operational needs and in consultation with Team members, consistent with University policies and guidance. This position may be expected to return to an in-person work schedule.Responsibilities: The Office of the Vice Provost for Research Government Affairs Strategic Partnerships at Northeastern University is situated under the Office of the Sr. Vice Provost for Research and supports Northeastern strategic plan to significantly grow the impact of our research enterprise. The office serves as a liaison to Capitol Hill, funding agencies and industry around large research initiatives.The Government Affairs Associate supports the Vice Provost for Research (VPR) with advocacy for congressional funding, pursuit of ambitious funding opportunities domestically and internationally, and development of research partnerships (university, industry, and government). The VPR has multiple responsibilities working with elected officials, federal agencies, and international governments. He also works closely with Northeastern deans, faculty, Vice Provosts for Research and other staff to pursue large funding opportunities.Responsibilities will include, but not limited to: Writing/editing memos and responding to government Requests for Information Research – funding opportunities in the US and globally, gather background info onpotential partners, legislation and other miscellaneous items Help with meeting notes and follow-up Assist with internal and external communications Identify leads for potential government programs and industry partners Work with administrative assistant to organize meetings in DC and elsewhere forVPR and others at NU Attended meeting on behalf of the VPR as needed Assist in the management of large research initiatives and coalitions Assist with developing and tracking Congressional directed funding requests Organize events virtual and in person (when we are able to have them) Qualifications: Understanding of and interest in scientific research Familiarity with research universities Experience in government, academia, or industry related to government affairs Very strong writer and researcher Strong analytical skills Able to work quickly Ability to be flexible and change direction rapidly Experience working in a busy office with multiple tasks Able to work well on a team, but also independently Ability to think creatively about ways to make an impact through government affairs Willing and able to work on federal, global, and industry partnerships Able to represent the university with government officials and partners Willing to travel as needed Experience with social media, Power Point, and Excel, updating websites College degree preferred Salary Grade: 10Additional Information:Northeastern University is an equal opportunity employer, seeking to recruit and support a broadly diverse community of faculty and staff.
