POSITION DESCRIPTION

Status: Salary Exempt Department: Accounting
Job Title: Controller
Reports To: V.P. of Finance & Administration
Location: Grand Junction, CO

General Purpose of Position: Perform accounting functions resulting in accurate and timely financial information

Supervision Received: Minimal
Supervision Exercised: Leads and directs the work of accounting staff as needed

Essential Position Functions and Responsibilities: Responsible for completion and maintenance of general ledgers and various financial reports.

Tasks Performed by the Position:
1. Maintain General ledger keeping balance sheet tied out and monitor P&L accounts (monthly).
2. Prepare all standard work papers and schedules required by outside accountants.
3. Prepare similar work papers for regular financial reports.
4. Monitor investment accounts.
5. Review coding of manual checks for input by AP.
6. Prepare Mays Concrete, Inc. and Mays Construction Specialties, Inc. regular financial statements including WIP. Requires a thorough understanding of percent complete accounting.
7. Close jobs regularly after review for cost status.
8. Assist AP, AR and Payroll staff in solving problems and creating procedures.
9. Monitor payroll entry and analyze due to/from accounts and correct as needed for burden relief, insurance deducts, equipment usage and payments, and related party activity.
10. Assist all staff in obtaining desired reports and producing Excel spreadsheets.
11. Calculate profit sharing per agreements.
12. Prepare miscellaneous tax documents (including property tax returns) and assist payroll in preparing payroll tax reports.
13. Maintain fixed assets and depreciation for MCI and MCSI.
14. Prepare schedules and obtain information as required/requested by management and other staff members.
15. Maintain Work Comp and general liability rates based on the most current policy and maintain Work Comp and general liability spread sheet for accruals and review for accuracy.
16. Close all modules in Timberline except those closed by AR on a monthly and yearly basis.
17. Generate and monitor note payable amortizations for payment verification, history current portion classification and accrued interest disclosure.
18. Prepare, assist or monitor as necessary accounting and tax functions for MRP, RPW, and other LLCs/Partnerships as necessary.
19. Calculate and monitor average labor and burden rates for engineering bidding purposes.
20. Monitor payroll and vacation accruals.
21. Prepare daily cash activity report for the Vice President of Finance & Administration.
22. Generate and monitor reconciliation of employee health package transactions for effect on company’s financial statements.
23. Calculate Deferred Compensation contributions, interest, and payouts.
24. Fiscal year end audits for Mays Concrete, Inc. and Mays Construction Specialties, Inc.

Position Requirements:
1. Minimum Education and Experience: Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting and at least 4 years of experience in the construction industry or in a related area.
2. Minimum Required Skills, Ability, Licensing, Certification, Training, etc.: Knowledge of Accounting software and spreadsheets and Microsoft Office.
3. Tools, Equipment, or Machines Required to Operate: 10-key by touch

5. Physical Requirements:

6. Scheduled Work Hours: 7:30 am to 5 pm

Judgment/Decision Making: Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Supervision:
A. Position Receives Direction From: Vice President of Finance & Administration
B. Position Directs: AP, AR, and payroll staff (as needed).
