The contractor shall:(1) Assess alignment of policymakers’ interests with Institute’s mission and help to develop strategies/opportunities to educate/inform policymakers on relevant scientific, education, and outreach efforts.(2) Collect, research, and analyze data and information from reports from Congressional officials and groups (caucuses) and from stakeholder organizations such as patient advocacy groups or scientific/medical societies(3) Summarize, analyze, and monitor proposed legislation and enacted public laws and, highlight areas of potential concern or relevance to the NHLBI mission(4) Serve as point of contact for inquiries or briefing requests from Congress, Congressional visits, meetings with legislators(5) Craft responses to inquiries from legislators or other interested parties concerning NHLBI’s research portfolio and related operations and policies, in consultation with scientific staff and leveraging Science Policy, Outreach, and Reporting (SPOR) Branch expertise and resources.(6) Prepare materials (e.g., digital content, hard copy take-aways, social media messages, data visualizations) to inform and educate policymakers, patients, and other stakeholders about investments and priorities in heart, lung, blood, and sleep research.(7) Assist in writing and editing technical reports and talking points that support leadership’s public messaging on research programs and priorities(8) Engage Congressional offices through social media, when needed, so that they can provide research- or health-related information to their constituencies.(9) Support outreach and engagement between NHLBI leadership and Congressional officials and other policymakers.(10) Assist in preparation of background information and materials for meetings involving the NHLBI Director and leadership with patient advocacy organizations and scientific/medical societies(11) Track and research upcoming Congressional hearings and briefings of interest to the NHLBI, attend hearings, provide written summaries and detailed analyses of hearings/briefings for NHLBI leadership and program staff(12) Prepare briefing materials for NHLBI officials who are invited to appear before Congress and assisting in preparing “take-away” materials requested from the NHLBI for the NIH Director when necessary.REQUIREMENTS.
