Job Function: The Climate Beneficial Technician will assist and coordinate carbon farm plan implementation within Fibersheds member-based producer program. The Climate Beneficial Technician will inspire and support land stewards within the North Central California Fibershed by assisting with, and managing program benchmarks and outcomes, reviewing and translating the latest scientific research on soil health, and maintaining Fibersheds Climate Beneficial Ag database. Working directly with farmers, ranchers, contract grazers, collaborating technical service providers (RCD staff, NRCS staff, Agricultural Extension Offices), researchers, and policymakers, the Climate Beneficial Technician will help advance the Climate Beneficial fiber economy in the Northern California Fibershed. The Climate Beneficial Technician will report directly to the Executive Director and work collaboratively with our communications, policy, and general operations staff. This position works remotely.The Climate Beneficial Program Coordinators understanding of the role of restorative agriculture practice on our regions working lands will inform and guide Fibersheds private sector advocacy and public sector policy efforts that bridge the delta between rural economic development, restoration of our agricultural soils, and climate change amelioration. Over the next five years, our organization aims to provide a refined understanding of our regions integrated fiber and food systems carbon cycle impact to amplify this works cultural, political, and economic impact.Principal TasksOversee and coordinate the Fibershed Climate Beneficial Verification ProgramCoordinate and implement soil sampling with landowners & managers, collect process field data, and interpret results to the producers.Aggregate and process field data for all producers in the program (including those outside the Climate Beneficial Verification Program)Engage and provide continual education on soil carbon sequestration and working landscape carbon drawdown to include but not limited to: reviewing scientific papers, attending workshops in classrooms and the field, direct outreach to scientists, farmers/ranchers, technical service providers, and othersOversee and coordinate the Carbon Farm Seed FundCoordinate producer carbon farm plans by creating, verifications, and sharing plansCoordinate with Carbon Farm Planning coordinators in other partner organizationsCoordinate and communicate grant opportunities (such as Healthy Soils Program) to eligible producersOversee and coordinate the Carbon Farm Cohort(s) to support the delivery of Carbon Farm Fund grantsSupport and collaborate with contractors and land stewards participating in Integrated Crop and Livestock Systems researchAssist with writing, data collection, editing, and support for funder reportsOccasional public education & speaking engagements (also to funders on occasion)Research and prepare reports as assignedAttend and support weekly team meetings in personOther duties as assignedOther Essential Functions: Regular and punctual attendance and dependability in meeting commitments and deadlines are essential functions of this position. Must be available and willing to work beyond a regular business day when needed and, on occasion, a flexible schedule, especially before events. Required to drive to client or producer sites, events, and possibly overnight time away.Physical and Mental Requirements: Ability to sit for prolonged periods. Operate a computer, mobile phone, tablet, and telephone. Work effectively when working in isolation. Work effectively as a part of a virtual team. Concentrate on a variety of details when faced with interruptions and changing work priorities. Occasionally is required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Physically able to work in the field during all seasons and terrain.Qualifications: The Climate Beneficial Technician needs to understand and have a passion for regional economic development and the intersection of fiber and food systems.BA or equivalent with a focus on agriculture, environmental studies, natural sciences, resource management, or related fieldThree to five years of experience in planning professional preferably in carbon farmingExcellent written and verbal communicationsAbility to work with a diverse group of people, e.g., working lands producers, Federal, State, Tribal, and non-government professionals,Exceptional organizational and time management skillsProficiency with Apple computers, Dropbox, GSuite, Eventbrite, and Zoom Meetings. Some work in Google Earth & GIS a plus.Highly organized and self-motivatedAbility to work both independently and be a team playerAbility to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a changing environmentExperience with non-profit program development and execution is preferredBackground with grassroots advocacy campaigns a plusExperience with large, multi-organization grassroots coalitions a plusProgram evaluation skills is a plusValid California driver’s license, clean driving record, and current auto insuranceDesired:Knowledge of local flora and faunaKnowledge of local agriculture and related carbon farming planning and indigenous cultural practicesExperience and understanding of agroforestry, cropland, range, and management principlesExperience working with a diverse group of conservation entities and organizationsThis job offers full-time employment and compensation is commensurate with experience level.
