Overview

The primary responsibility of the Psychologist is to provide intake assessment and ongoing treatment to a caseload of patients on a daily basis. This position requires providing service to children and adolescents in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served. This incumbent will complete the required documentation on each patient on a professional level. This Psychologist works under the direction of Medical Director.

UNIT SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

  • Examine patients to obtain information about their physical condition.

  • Interpret diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.

  • Obtain, compile and record patient medical data, including health history, progress notes and results of physical examination (H&Ps).

  • Make tentative diagnoses and decisions about management and treatment of patients.

  • Order diagnostic tests, such as x-ray and laboratory tests.

  • Instruct and counsel patients and their families about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.

  • Visit and observe patients on hospital rounds, updates charts, orders therapy, and reports finds back to physician.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of pediatric mental illnesses, their developmental progression

    and associated clinical interventions.

  • Utilizes this knowledge to implement age specific/developmentally appropriate interventions for all patients

  • Completes documentation to reflect ongoing implementation of treatment plans in a timely fashion.

  • Participates in family education as a member of the interdisciplinary team, as indicated.

  • Identifies and orders appropriate levels of clinical observation and medical interventions to provide patient safety.

  • Adheres to policy, procedures and established practices in the medication prescription process.

  • Maintains competence in identified universal, core and critical competencies.

  • Complete rounds for selected doctors on weekends.

  • Dictates reports.

  • Complete pre/post restraint/seclusion assessments

  • Adjust medications in collaboration with supervisory physician.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific growth and development
  • Participates in own performance process.

  • Maintains competence in identified universal, core and critical competencies.

  • Perform other duties as requested.

  • Dispense and administer drugs which are outlined on the hospital formulary and medical devices.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  1. PhD/PsyD or better in Psychology or related field.

  2. One to two years experience working with children and adolescents preferred.

  3. Current Licensure in the state of PA required.

  4. Prior field experience in a psychiatric setting preferred.

  5. Knowledge of group dynamics preferred.

  6. Must be knowledgeable of the developmental stages and behaviors for age group of assigned clients

  7. Maintains competence in identified universal, core and critical competencies.

  8. Valid Act 34/34 clearances

  9. Must meet job competencies within 90 days of hire.
