CellFE is a venture-backed company with a mission to make advanced therapies accessible to all by transforming the way gene therapies are manufactured. The company uses a microfluidics-based cell engineering platform that can be adapted universally to enable low-cost, high-yield manufacturing of gene therapies at scale. CellFE’s first generation of products is being developed for contract manufacturers and pharmaceutical companies that specialize in ex-vivo cell therapy and viral vector (“VV”) manufacturing.

Position summary: The VP of Technical Operations is responsible for building and leading the project/program management function within technical operations, as well as, building effective teams to execute customer projects.

The successful VP of technical program management will

ensure the execution of customer-specific projects performed by interdisciplinary (science and engineering) teams.

This position is based in Alameda, CA and is a member of the Leadership Team, reporting to the CEO.

Specific responsibilities:

Works closely with CPO, Science and Engineering team leaders to allocate the appropriate resources (people, funding, material, support) to the customer projects

Develops frameworks for continuous improvement of execution of customer-specific projects

Manages program/project scope, risks, schedules, resources, and budgets

Identifies, hires, develops, and trains the program management team

Trains project teams (scientists and engineers) to ensure highly effective execution of the projects (i.e. assign responsibilities for tasks and decisions of the projects, set clear objectives and measures of success for the projects, implement feedback loops, conduct project meetings)

Holds project teams accountable for quality and completeness or project execution

Maintains clear, cooperative and positive communication

Resolves cross-functional conflicts

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and 15+ years of work experience in medical device/lab equipment development operations required, PMP certification or equivalent, preferred

10+ years of experience directly managing technical staff and/or program/project management

Successful track record of establishing effective project/program management processes in a rapidly expanding organization (i.e. processes/systems need to be continuously adjusted to fit the organization at a given time point)

Experience building effective and high performing teams from the ground-up, including recruitment and development of talent

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple multidisciplinary teams with competing resources and providing a clear vision and plan forward

Ability to quickly implement recovery plans when things are falling into cracks

Ability to motivate a team to work effectively under a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment.
