Overview:A Better Childhood, a national organization dedicated to improving child welfare through the use of class action litigation, is seeking an attorney with two to fouryears of experience to help us develop and pursue new litigation throughout the country.The purpose of the litigation is to more firmly establish a concrete body of law to improve child welfare systems for both children in foster care and for those children under court supervision for abuse and neglect.Our work involves the investigation of child welfare systems, developing relationships with local communities, enlisting private law firms, and bringing and prosecuting suits that will establish the rights of children to receive necessary, appropriate and legally-required services.The work will be major, multi-year litigation involving important legal and public policy issues.Responsibilities:Attorneys will be based in New York and will work on sites across the country.They will conduct legal research, develop legal theories, work with experts, learn the details of particular systems under scrutiny, and help shape the litigation to address the problems in those systems.The litigation will be intensive and fact-based, and will involve the interplay with constitutional and statutory requirements.Required Qualifications:Admission to the bar in any jurisdictionMinimum of two to four years of litigation or other legal experience, preferably in federal courtExcellent research, writing and organizational skillDemonstrated interest in public interest workPassion for ABCs missionAbility to work independently and collaboratively, listen and learnAbility to thrive in a busy, multi-tasking and time-pressured environmentAccuracy, integrity and discretionWillingness to travel – once that becomes safe againGood sense of humorTracking
